This project shows what's possible when our team steps in at a critical moment. The clients purchased it early in construction - the footprint was set, but enough remained undecided that our studio could meaninfully shape the outcome.
Having enjoyed our work on their previous city condo, these clients returned seeking a home that looked categorically different from others in the neighborhood. Their openness to materials of integrity, rich texture, and eye-catching antiques made that possible.
Upgraded finishes immediately elevated the quality of the space: herringbone white oak floors, antique marble fireplaces, and custom millwork, doors, and moldings throughout. In the kitchen, family room, and primary bedroom, reclaimed wood beams were introduced to lend warmth and a feeling of completeness lent by things with a history.
Decoratively, an olive plaster finish envelops the formal front rooms, while the family room at the rear has a welcoming, hushed palette. In the kitchen, elegant off-black cabinetry makes a statement, but the bold gesture is tempered by the pale floors and surfaces, creating a dynamic push-pull that rewards the family day in, day out.Lincoln Park | Chicago, IL
